Georgi Minasyan solo duduk performances in ‘The Promise’

Georgi Minasyan was recently honored with an invitation to AIR Studios in London to record solo duduk for the newly released Feature Film, ‘The Promise’.

Set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire, ‘The Promise’ follows a love triangle between Michael, a brilliant medical student, the beautiful and sophisticated Ana, and Chris – a renowned American journalist based in Paris.

Georgi worked with Academy Award winning composer, Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, The Talent Mr. Ripley), along with Director Terry George and Orchestrator Jeff Atmajian to create an amazingly moving and dramatic score for the film.

Georgi performed on a series of duduk instruments designed and created by his grandfather, Maestro Georgy Minasov.  The expanded range provided versatility and greater imagination to the duduk sound.

Georgy Minasov to perform at the 2nd Annual International Moscow Festival of Duduk

 

The Second International Moscow Festival of Duduk will take place in Moscow State Estrada Theatre on 27 September at 19:00. The best duduk players will take part in the festival.

Among them are Jivan Gasparyan, Armenian duduk legend,  winner of four UNESCO medals  and Golden Globe Award for the music to the film Gladiator, as well as his grandson and talented heir Jivan Gasparyan (Junior), and distinguished artists of Armenia, including Gevorg Dabaghyan, Kamo Seyranyan, Gagik Malkhasyan and Georgy Minasov with “Dudukner” ensemble, young brilliant dudukists from Armenia Georgy Minasov (Junior) and Artak Asatryan, Hovhannes Ghazaryan, Norayr Barseghyan and many others.

The festival is annual and will simultaneously be held in three countries of the world next year. The organizer is the DUDUKIST project in cooperation with the Armenian Youth Congress of Russia.

Republic of Armenia’s Honored Artist Georgy Minasov was awarded the honorary title of Honored Art Worker of the Nagorno Karabagh Republic – Presented by President Bako Sahakyan

On 6 November President Bako Sahakyan signed a Presidential decree for services shown to the Artsakh Republic in the sphere of musical art and in connection with the 80th birthday anniversary famous duduk player, lecturer of the Yeravan Romanos Melikyan Music College, Republic of Armenia’s Honored Artist Georgy Minasov was awarded the honorary title of Honored Art Worker of the Nagorno Karabagh Republic.

According to another Presidential decree on awarding the “Gratitude” medal to American philanthropist of Armenian origin Varuzhan Kyoureghyan for a number of humanitarian programs carried out in the Nagorno Karabagh Republic. Central Information Department of the Office of Artsakh Republic informs about this.

Rome, January 15 (TMNews) – Great success last night Institution University of Rome Concert for Jordi Savall and his ensemble Hespèrion XXI, along with four Armenian musicians who presented his latest project “Spirit of Armenia”. Pm in the auditorium of the University La Sapienza, fully packed – the concert has sold out – the great Catalan master has resounded with the melodies and instruments of ancient Armenian music, an extraordinarily rich heritage but little known.

Rome, January 15 (TMNews) – Great success last night Institution University of Rome Concert for Jordi Savall and his ensemble Hespèrion XXI, along with four Armenian musicians who presented his latest project “Spirit of Armenia”. Pm in the auditorium of the University La Sapienza, fully packed – the concert has sold out – the great Catalan master has resounded with the melodies and instruments of ancient Armenian music, an extraordinarily rich heritage but little known.

Viewers were transported to a distant universe and elegiac, evoked by the haunting sound of the duduk, the oldest Armenian instrument, which belongs to the family of oboes but has a darker sound. The musicians Georgi Minassyan and Haig Sarikouyoumdjian recreated with their duduk a poetic and spiritual dimension, in a dialogue that was often the prelude to a crescendo in which they are added as the drum, the purple bow, fiddle and kamancha, in addition to the beautiful voice of the singer Aram Movsisyan. Gaguik Mouradian has kidnapped the audience with the moans of his kamancha lonely, distant ancestor of the violin from the soundboard round.

Savall has directed and played with the other musicians around 19 songs, plus two encores, which are required with an ovation of applause. Among these Azat astvatsn and Ter kedzo (Ode to liberty and supplication for the Armenians), the medieval Akna krunk (Song of exile), Dun en glkhen (Petition to the king before the exile), the heartbreaking “Lamentation over the city of Ani “cheerful and loving dialogue Al aylukhs. In addition, many rural beautiful songs, the Sirt im Sasani (Cantilena Holy Thursday) and the nineteenth-century Menk kadj Tohmi (Song of the fight).

“Spirit of Armenia” was dedicated by Savall also to his wife, the soprano Montserrat Figueras, who recently passed away. “He had a deep sympathy and feeling a great attraction for these tools Armenians,” he wrote Savall, “and he felt a great admiration for the extraordinary quality of our music musician friends of Armenia. After his death, I myself have found a great consolation in listening to these wonderful two duduk moans and kamancha. ”

Jordi Savall Invites Georgy Minasov to Perform at the 69th Season of the IUC Classical Music Concert in Rome, Italy

Georgy Minasov received an invitation from Jordi Savall to perform at next year’s IUC (Instituzione Universitaria Concerti) Classical Music Concert event in Rome, Italy.  The theme for the concert is “Armenian Spirit” and will be held on January 14th, 2014.  Georgy has performed with Jordi Savall in the recent years.

Georgy Minasov and the Dudukner Ensemble return to Zvartnots!

The Zvartnots cathedral ruins stands in front of the Ararat mountains.  Built in the seventh century, the structure withstood many battles and conquests.  The Dudukner Ensemble returns to Zvartnots in tribute and performs ‘Machkal’ from their 2-disc collection produced in 2010.  Filmed in 2013, the music video features the ensemble, and soloist Georgy Minasov.
