Rome, January 15 (TMNews) – Great success last night Institution University of Rome Concert for Jordi Savall and his ensemble Hespèrion XXI, along with four Armenian musicians who presented his latest project “Spirit of Armenia”. Pm in the auditorium of the University La Sapienza, fully packed – the concert has sold out – the great Catalan master has resounded with the melodies and instruments of ancient Armenian music, an extraordinarily rich heritage but little known.

Viewers were transported to a distant universe and elegiac, evoked by the haunting sound of the duduk, the oldest Armenian instrument, which belongs to the family of oboes but has a darker sound. The musicians Georgi Minassyan and Haig Sarikouyoumdjian recreated with their duduk a poetic and spiritual dimension, in a dialogue that was often the prelude to a crescendo in which they are added as the drum, the purple bow, fiddle and kamancha, in addition to the beautiful voice of the singer Aram Movsisyan. Gaguik Mouradian has kidnapped the audience with the moans of his kamancha lonely, distant ancestor of the violin from the soundboard round.

Savall has directed and played with the other musicians around 19 songs, plus two encores, which are required with an ovation of applause. Among these Azat astvatsn and Ter kedzo (Ode to liberty and supplication for the Armenians), the medieval Akna krunk (Song of exile), Dun en glkhen (Petition to the king before the exile), the heartbreaking “Lamentation over the city of Ani “cheerful and loving dialogue Al aylukhs. In addition, many rural beautiful songs, the Sirt im Sasani (Cantilena Holy Thursday) and the nineteenth-century Menk kadj Tohmi (Song of the fight).

“Spirit of Armenia” was dedicated by Savall also to his wife, the soprano Montserrat Figueras, who recently passed away. “He had a deep sympathy and feeling a great attraction for these tools Armenians,” he wrote Savall, “and he felt a great admiration for the extraordinary quality of our music musician friends of Armenia. After his death, I myself have found a great consolation in listening to these wonderful two duduk moans and kamancha. ”
